Originally named Frederick Town in honour of the Duke of York and Albany, the first European settlement in Western Australia was renamed Albany in 1832. Thanks to its superb harbour, the town quickly became a busy port. Today Albany is off the beaten track which makes exploring all the more fun, whether visiting Whale World Museum or touring one of the area’s excellent wineries.

Spectacular Rottnest Island, the ‘Emerald Isle in a Sea of Sapphire’ is today’s touring destination. Take in the amazing fauna and flora of the island, stunning beaches, woodlands and incredible salt lakes – including a unique historic train ride.
After breakfast, board the Indian Pacific Train – home for the next five days / four nights. Prepare for a journey of contrasts, from ghost towns to a city of four million, from the barren expanse of the Nullarbor to majestic mountains, vast goldmines to lush vineyards.
Time to stretch your legs in this historic mining town. Kalgoorlie is known for its rich gold deposits and famous for the Super Pit. Late evening, a nightcap and stargazing in the old railway town of Cook - now virtually a ghost town.
After passing the scenic Flinders Ranges and Spencer Gulf, visit the world-renowned wine-producing region of the Barossa Valley. Spend the evening at Seppeltsfield Winery for dinner and a traditional ‘Firing of the Barrel’ display.
Arrive in the ‘Silver City’ of Broken Hill this morning. Discover the mining history and artistic culture of this unique town and heritage-listed city.
Before arriving in Sydney, we stop in the impressive Blue Mountains to appreciate the captivating views and sandstone ridges. Enjoy the Scenic Skyway, Cableway or a guided tour to make the most of the dramatic scenery with eucalyptus forests and deep valleys. A ‘Farewell Dinner’ tonight.

A good standard of fitness is required for this tour. The ability to walk unaided for 500 metres is essential. The train is unstable while travelling, therefore you need to be firm-of-foot. It is expected you will arrive on tour fit, healthy and ready to travel.
