Discover how Stockholm is built across many interconnecting islands, explore the Old Town of Estonia’s capital Tallinn, where medieval castles rekindle childhood storybook memories, and experience Helsinki, a city dominated by the sea, design and modern architecture. Venture into the wilderness of Northern Finland, where you can mingle with reindeer and learn about the region’s incredible changing seasons.

Norway – once considered the ‘poor cousin’ of Scandinavia – is a country of dramatic scenery, natural resources and famously friendly people. Your coastal voyage from 71 degrees north to Bergen in the south reveals striking contrasts: a bleak, rocky coastline with little vegetation gives way to lush green fjord valleys and cascading waterfalls further south. The journey by coach, boat and train over and into the fjords is nothing short of spectacular. Oslo and Copenhagen are both small capitals by European standards, yet each boasts a Royal Palace and a fascinating seafaring history.

Depart Auckland on Emirates to arrive in Dubai. Change planes and continue on to Stockholm.

Arrive in Stockholm mid-afternoon and transfer to your centrally located hotel. Evening at your leisure.

Breakfast Dinner

Enjoy a city sightseeing tour which includes some of Stockholm’s most fascinating attractions, passing through areas such as Södermalm, Kungsholmen, Djurgården and the city centre. Afternoon free before a Welcome Dinner tonight.

Stockholm - Tallinn, Estonia

Breakfast

Morning free. Around midday, travel by coach to Skansen with time to stretch your legs and enjoy lunch (own expense) before arriving in Stockholm Harbour. Sail out of Stockholm past many tiny islands as the sun sets.

Breakfast Dinner

Arrive in Tallinn Harbour mid-morning then depart on a city coach tour that includes the recreational area of Kadriorg - Pirita, ending with an early afternoon hotel arrival. After checking-in, enjoy a walking tour of the relaxed atmosphere of the ‘Old Town’.

Today, visit Lahemaa National Park to learn about the diverse Estonian cultural history and enjoy the bays, forest, limestone cliffs and huge boulders of the nature reserve of the Gulf of Finland. Return to Tallin for dinner.

Tallinn - Helsinki, Finland

Breakfast Lunch

Transfer to the port for a fast ferry to Finland’s capital Helsinki. Transfer to your hotel with the afternoon free to explore this seafaring city.

Today’s city tour includes Helsinki’s neoclassical buildings as well as the modern architecture from some of the 20th century’s most famous architects. Visit Senate Square and end at the harbour marketplace where a tasty but inexpensive fish lunch may be bought. Some free time this afternoon.

Helsinki – Ivalo – Inari

This morning fly north to Ivalo and coach to Inari. Late afternoon visit a reindeer herder to see how a present-day Sámi family lives and experience a traditional Sámi dinner.

Today, walk to the nearby Sámi Museum and enjoy a visit of this UNESCO-sponsored museum featuring life in Lapland and the Sámi people. The afternoon is free to shop and explore this quaint town.

Inari – Kirkenes, Norway

An early morning start to travel north past thousands of lakes to join the Norwegian Coastal Voyage ‘Hurtigruten’ by lunchtime. Your new generation ship is the MS Kong Harald. First call at Vardø, the easternmost town of Western Europe; then Båtsfjord and Berlevåg en route to Hammerfest.

The Norwegian Coastal Voyage has been part of Norway’s heritage for over 100 years. Today, it combines first-class passenger ships with community working vessels, carrying both locals and tourists along Norway’s stunning coastline. Enjoy ever-changing scenery from the deck or lounge while relaxing and meeting new people. Travelling at 16 knots, the journey gives you plenty of time to unwind, take in the breathtaking views, and enjoy the experience.

Hammerfest – Tromsø

Today, arrive into one of the world’s most northerly towns – Hammerfest. The ship then steams south, arriving at Tromsø just before midnight, in time to enjoy the nightlife for a couple of hectic hours.

Harstad – Svolvær – Stamsund – Lofoten Islands

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

The Vesterålen and Lofoten Island groups are among the most beautiful highlights of the voyage. Depart Harstad in the early morning and sail through the Risøyrenna channel, with clear sea-green waters, impressive bridges and colourful coastal villages. Arrive in Stamsund in the early evening before continuing across Vestfjord to Bodø.

Ørnes – Arctic Circle – Rørvik

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

After leaving Ørnes, the route weaves between islands and through narrow straits. Mountains tower in the background. Cross the Arctic Circle today. The last port of call is Rørvik.

Thursday 02 September

Trondheim – Kristiansund – Molde

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

Early this morning you’ll wake to find yourself in Trondheim. Before noon, the coastal ship ploughs through the Trondheim Fjord again, steaming south to the salt cod town of Kristiansund. In the evening call at Molde, a town of traditional white-painted wooden houses.

Florø – Bergen

Ahead of you lie several hours of Vestland scenery; the mouth of the Sognefjord and the beautiful archipelago approaching Bergen. Arrive Bergen early afternoon and transfer to a centrally located hotel for a two-night stay.

This morning’s city tour of Bergen, a 950-year-old city with areas of cobbled streets and a famous fish market, will highlight the history of Bergen. An optional funicular ride to the top station of Mt Fløyen above the city to enjoy the panoramic vista is available. The rest of the day free.

Sunday 05 September

Bergen – Voss - Flåm

This morning, depart Bergen by coach at the start of two days of wonderful scenery and varied transport. The journey to Voss is about an hour. Continue to Gudvangen, then cruise the fjords to Flåm. Enjoy this special corner of the Aurlandsfjord with an overnight stay in Flåm.

Monday 06 September

Flåm – Myrdal – Oslo

The train journey through the countryside on the Flåm railway from the fjord to the mountain station of Myrdal at an average gradient of 5.5% is a must-do. Change trains at Myrdal – sit back and enjoy the journey over the Hardangervidda mountain range, passing through many tunnels, through a harsh landscape that contrasts with the fjords. On arrival in Oslo, transfer to your central hotel for one night.

A morning city tour of the small capital of Norway (population 750,000). Inclusions are Vigeland Park, the City Hall, Bygdøy to see the Viking ships and a choice of either the Fram Polar Ship Museum, or the Kon-Tiki Museum. This afternoon board the overnight ferry to Copenhagen.

Food - Sweden is the origin of the word smorgasbord (smörgåsbord) and each Scandinavian country has its own name for this buffet meal – in Norway it is koldtbord. The idea is to keep returning to the buffet for the small dishes offered. Breakfast usually includes dense dark bread, cold meats, cheese, tomatoes and cucumber. Porridge with berries, potato cakes or a rice pudding may also be offered. A wide range of fast food outlets are available in cities. Autumn in Lapland is special with cloudberries and many other berry fruits and mushrooms available.

Clothing - This tour requires comfortable day clothing with good walking shoes and a lightweight windproof jacket.

On board the MS Kong Harald, clothing is casual and dinner only requires smart casual – likewise the hotels on tour.
