General Information

History and Culture

The past plays a large part in the Norfolk way of life – highlighted by museums, churches, sound and light shows, re-enactments, ruins, buildings and structures.  Their history dates back to the 1800s, convict settlements and the Mutiny on the Bounty.

Their history is divided into eras:

  • Pre-1788 – evidence of Polynesian settlement
  • First Colonial settlement 1788 – 1814
  • Second Penal settlement 1825 – 1855
  • Third Pitcairn settlement 1856 – present day

Visitors become very much absorbed in their way of life and enjoy seeing how the past is influencing the future.

Health and Fitness

Walking tours are an important part of the itinerary and a good standard of health is required with the ability to walk on uneven surfaces and negotiate stairs
