Lord Howe Island - a truly unspoilt jewel of the Pacific with a fascinating ecological ethos is a World Heritage Island with 168 bird species (including the endemic woodhen), 241 species of native plants (105 are endemic), 500 marine fish and 90 different coral species as the sea is warmed by the South Equatorial Current, Lord Howe enjoys a subtropical climate with an average rainfall of 1568 mm per annum. - a virtual ‘Garden of Eden’.

Temperatures rarely rise above 26°c in summer or fall below 16°c in winter. Water temperature in summer can be as high as 24°c and in winter still remains as high as 18°c – a snorkelling mecca.

Lord Howe is two hours flying time from Sydney, 11kms long and 2.4kms wide at its narrowest point and home to approximately 350 locals.

Tourism is an important part of their economy, but visitor numbers are restricted to 400 at any one time.

Sunday 17 March

Auckland– Sydney - Lord Howe Island

An early departure from Auckland, via Sydney, arriving Lord Howe mid afternoon. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation for a seven night stay. Afternoon at leisure to explore and shop for breakfast requirements. Take a cloth bag as there are no plastic bags on the island. You can organise to hire a cycle (easy and safe cycling). Later enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant.

Monday 18 March

This morning depart on a half day Orientation Tour of Lord Howe Island. This afternoon view the island the way it was discovered, from the sea aboard the island Cruise ‘Lulawai’. Dinner tonight is a B.Y.O group BBQ 

Tuesday 19 March

Today's outing lets you view the fish and corals of the world's most Southern Barrier Reef as you slowly cruise to the beautiful North Bay.  Enjoy turtle spotting of the Green and Hawkes Bill Turtles through the glass bottom boat.  A BBQ lunch is included and the afternoon is at leisure.  For the adventurous, snorketl the wreck at North Bay or take the short climb up Mt Eliza with its panoramic views and Herring Pools or just sit and laze the afternoon away.

A free day to enjoy, you may like to take a full boat tour, Alternatively hire a bike, walk or just relax on the beach. Attempt the over whelming Mt. Gower Hike –(Please ensure you book as you need a guide).

Today’s tour is over Lord Howe Island’s world heritage marine environment, viewing the marine paradise through a glass bottom boat. There is also the option today to snorkel Erscott’s Hole, This evening gather together at the public hall for a Historical movie, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Join Ron on a relaxed 3km history ramble today. Pass through lovely forests, mutton-bird rookery, enjoyed cliff top views, giant banyans, see valley of shadows, clear place and Balls Pyramid. Learn about the palm and tourist industry, flora, bush tucker and medicine, birds, volcanic history, snippets of colourful local history and more.

Travel to the fascinating mountains at the end of the island today. Little islands is where the lagoons reef comes to its southern end, It is a 1km level stroll too the base of the mountain. After a rest enjoying the view, stroll back to for a 2 course restaurant lunch. A farewell dinner is also included tonight.

A mid-morning departure from Lord Howe Island through Sydney and connecting onto a later flight to Auckland.

Health and Fitness

Walking tours are an important part of the itinerary and a good standard of health is required with the ability to walk on uneven surfaces and negotiate stairs
