Begin your journey at historic Tiananmen Square, then enter the Forbidden City - the imperial seat for centuries and considered the best-preserved palace complex in China.
Today, visit the Temple of Heaven, regarded as the noblest example of religious architecture in all of China, before continuing on to a local marriage market for an insight into modern matchmaking customs. After lunch, enjoy a lazy afternoon at the Summer Palace, an impressive display of man-made beauty built around Kunming Lake and once the imperial summer retreat.
Venture out to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, including a round-trip cable car ride. Enjoy lunch at a local Chinese restaurant before visiting a jade factory. Return to your hotel with dinner at a local restaurant tonight.
Start the day with a rickshaw ride through Beijing’s ancient hutongs then, board a high-speed train to Xi’an, the ancient capital.
Today visit the extraordinary Terracotta Warrior Museum, home to thousands of life-sized soldiers built to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor. Learn about their construction at a local workshop. Enjoy free time this afternoon before a Tang Dynasty Show and dumpling dinner tonight.
Visit the bell tower in the morning, followed by a walk along the imposing Xi’an City Wall, one of China’s oldest and most intact fortifications, before your afternoon flight to Lhasa. On arrival transfer to the hotel for a three-night stay.
Today’s sightseeing includes Jokhang Temple, the most sacred in Tibet, and Sera Monastery, where you may witness monks energetically debating Buddhist philosophy in the open courtyards.
Visit the iconic Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama and a symbol of Tibetan Buddhism. Free afternoon, with an optional tour to Norbu Linka - a plateau botanic garden home to over 100 rare Himalayan plant species.
After breakfast depart for the airport, stopping en route at Samye Monastery, Tibet’s first and one of its most architecturally unique monasteries, and said to be the birthplace of Tibetan culture. Fly to Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan Province. On arrival check in to the hotel and settle in for a three-night stay.
This morning wander the charming Chengdu Wide and Narrow Alley filled with tea houses, crafts and historic architecture. After lunch spend a relaxed afternoon in the People’s Park observing local life before visiting the Chengdu Shu Brocade and Embroidery Museum. Dinner tonight at a local restaurant followed by a walk around the nightlife of Anshun Bridge.
After breakfast visit the Wolong Panda Reserve, home to China’s beloved giant pandas and a reserve dedicated to the protection of forest ecosystems and precious wildlife. Return to Chengdu with free time this afternoon before an evening show.
Take the high-speed train to Chongqing, where you’ll ride the iconic Yangtze River cable car. Enjoy some free time strolling the streets of Ciqikou Ancient Town before boarding your river cruise ship for a leisurely three-night cruise on the Yangtze River.
Sail past picturesque villages and visit either Ghost City Fengdu or Mount Shuanggui Scenic Area. Participate in a Tai Chi session or enjoy an onboard lecture to learn about the river’s legends.
Pass through the Three Gorges. Firstly the majestic Qutang and Wu Gorges, with an excursion to Shennv Stream and possibly White Emperor City. Marvel at the narrow cliffs and dramatic landscapes of the Xiling Gorge as the cruise continues toward the Three Gorges Dam.
Disembark after a visit to the massive Three Gorges Dam. Travel by train to Wuhan for a two-night stay.
Visit The Yellow Crane Tower, one of China’s most famous and celebrated landmarks. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, with free this afternoon to explore before dinner and The Han Theatre Show tonight.
Travel in style and comfort aboard the high-speed train from Wuhan to Shanghai (approx. five hours).
Spend the morning strolling along The Bund, where colonial architecture faces futuristic skyscrapers, and through the 400-year-old Yu Garden and the lively City God Temple bazaar – a great place to sample soup dumplings. This afternoon, visit a tea shop before a farewell dinner tonight.
Enjoy your final morning at leisure in Shanghai. A late checkout is included before transferring to the airport for your overnight international flight home.

Tour Description - Please note that this is a soft adventure tour. Whilst hotels throughout this journey are carefully selected for comfort, travellers should be aware that public facilities in China and Tibet can vary considerably — squat-style toilets are common when out and about, and some amenities along the way may be more basic than what you’re accustomed to at home.
Luggage - It is essential you can manage your own suitcase. A bag with wheels is an advantage when travelling through airports.
Travelling at altitude - Tibet - Tibet is a high-altitude region (3,700m). Individuals with heart disease, hypertension or asthma should consult their doctor before booking on this tour. If you are over the age of 75 years a health certificate will be required two months prior to travel.
