Warm, welcoming and unhurried, Samoa is Polynesia at its most genuine. This tour is designed for those who love to see and do, while travelling at a comfortable pace with coach touring, just two resorts for the week and plenty of free time around the highlights. Along the way you’ll be welcomed into a Samoan church service, learn to weave, swim in a waterfall fed trench and a lagoon filled with giant clams, and enjoy a traditional umu demonstration, all alongside two experienced guides. Samoa’s culture is built around family, faith and hospitality, known as the fa’a Samoa, meaning “the Samoan way”. Experience this first-hand through village visits, a local school, a women’s business initiative and shared meals with your Samoan hosts, alongside rainforest waterfalls, black lava blowholes and the postcard beaches Samoa is famous for.

Dinner
Depart from Auckland on a morning Air New Zealand flight landing in Apia in the early afternoon. Transfer to Taumeasina Island Resort, your home for the next three nights. Afternoon at leisure before a welcome dinner.

A guided coach tour of Apia this morning, taking in Mulivai Cathedral, the Independence Monument, Parliament House and the German Monument, with time at the markets. Highlights are the Samoa Cultural Village at Malifa — weaving and an umu demonstration, fire-knife performance and tropical fruit and food tastings. Tonight enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Savai’i Island Tour

An early morning departure for the ferry from Mulifanua Wharf to the island of Savai’i. After crossing, experience a siapo (bark cloth) demonstration, the thundering Alofaaga Blowholes and an optional swim at Afu A’au Waterfall — watching from the edge is just as welcome. We continue to explore the spectacular South Coast before the return ferry to Upolu and our resort with the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Taumeasina - Saletoga

Today we depart Taumeasina for a scenic crossing of Upolu via Le Mafa Pass, stopping at Falefa Cathedral and Sopoaga Waterfalls & Botanical Gardens. The highlight is the To Sua Ocean Trench, a stunning sunken swimming hole. We then stop at Lalomanu Beach and enjoy a BBQ lunch before arriving at Saletoga Sands Resort & Spa for a four-night stay.

Sunday is traditionally set aside for church, family and rest. If you wish, attend a local morning service at Matatufu Church to hear the renowned Samoan choral singing. The rest of this quiet day is free to enjoy the resort’s pools, gardens and ocean views.

An easy-paced day of local connection: morning visits to a Samoan school and a Women in Business initiative, then on to the famous Aggie Grey’s Homestead at Afiamalu for a botanical garden tour, cocoa tasting, lunch and a history presentation, with time at the Apia markets on the way home.

A relaxed touring day along Samoa’s south coast, with village sightseeing and beach time. An option to snorkel among the giant clams or simply relax on the beach before we return to our resort mid-afternoon. Farewell dinner tonight.

A relaxed morning to enjoy breakfast before checking out. Transfer to Faleolo International Airport for your onward flight home.
Optional and at-your-own-pace moments - Nobody is obliged to get wet (or up early!) Several of the week’s loveliest moments — the Afu A’au Waterfall swim, the To Sua Ocean Trench ladder and Giant Clam Reserve snorkelling — are entirely optional. Comfortable viewing areas and seating are available at each, so those who prefer to watch, chat or simply enjoy the scenery are just as much part of the day.

Currency - The local currency is the Samoan Tala (WST), but New Zealand dollars and major credit cards are widely accepted at resorts. NZD can be accepted at resorts and larger tourist spots — smaller shops, markets, and local vendors in Apia or the villages will generally expect Tala, so it’s worth changing some cash before departure.
Luggage - It is essential you can manage your own suitcase. A bag with wheels is an advantage when travelling through airports.
Health and Mobility
To ensure the tour is enjoyable for you and others in the group, a good standard of fitness and mobility is required. You must be able to walk along tracks to visit beaches and to explore the inland areas. Mobility frames are not practical or permitted. It is expected you will arrive on tour fit, healthy and ready to travel.
