Join our tour to South Australia which includes a 3-night ever popular Murray River Cruise, plus discover Kangaroo Island’s fascinating wildlife, spectacular coastal scenery, stunning landscapes and unique local produce. To complete the tour, we have included four nights in Adelaide. The Murray River in South Australia offers landscapes like no other. The 3 nights will be spent cruising the river watching Australian Native animals at play including Kangaroos and prolific bird life, plus you will come away with an education on this area, which helped shape the early days of Australia.

Depart on Air New Zealand to arrive into Adelaide late morning. Enjoy a city sights tour before arriving at your inner-city hotel. An afternoon to relax before a welcome dinner tonight to mix and mingle.

This morning we have a walking tour of the Adelaide Markets. Enjoy a taste of the local produce and meeting the local vendors. Free time this afternoon to further explore the city centre.

Adelaide to Kangaroo Island

After breakfast we travel to the famous D’Arenberg Cube which sits in the centre of Mourvèdre vines for a tour, tasting and lunch. This afternoon we continue onto Cape Jervis ferry terminal for an afternoon crossing to Kangaroo Island.

Today takes us out into the vast wilderness of Cape Gantheaume Wilderness Protection Area for a guided beach walk of Seal Bay. We continue onto the Raptor Domain to enjoy a birds of prey show and tour. We then enjoy lunch at the Kangaroo Island Spirits Distillery before free time to relax this afternoon.

Kangaroo Island to Murray River cruise

We start the day with a return ferry trip to the mainland, then travel on to Phoenix Farm for lunch, before arriving at Mannum mid-afternoon where we board the PS Murray Princess. This evening we cruise downriver under floodlight to our overnight mooring at Mundurra. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species.

Onboard Murray Princess

After a hearty breakfast, choose to join a guided tour of the town’s historic landmarks and local attractions included, or, at additional cost go on an optional wildlife tour at Monarto Safari Park. This afternoon, we continue our journey upriver and tonight we moor at Salt Bush Flat.

Monarto Safari Park, the largest Safari Park outside of Africa spanning more than 1,500 hectares and home to more than 50 species of exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles. For example Giraffe, Eland, Zebra, White Rhinoceros, Cheetah, Lions, Hyena, and African Painted Dogs. You will also pass through the Asian Grasslands offering a chance to catch a glimpse of Indian Antelope, Mesopotamian Deer, Black Rhino, American Bison, red Deer, Przewalksi Horse and Scimitar-horned Oryx.

Onboard Murray Princess

This morning, join a guided nature walk where our guide will share the secrets of the local flora and fauna. Near Fromms Landing, we turn and head downriver to River View Lodge where your discovery vessel awaits for a wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, we explore the maze of the river and the birdlife is amazing. Watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges. The afternoon offers a choice of bocce or fishing challenges before a delicious final night dinner.

Monday 04 November

Mannum to Adelaide

This morning we head back to Mannum and after breakfast, say farewell to the Murray Princess. We travel back to Adelaide via Hahndorf where we enjoy a two-course lunch at the Haus Restaurant with time to explore the village shops.  We continue onto our waterfront accommodation in the seaside suburb of Glenelg. 

 

 

Tuesday 05 November

Today a free day to follow your own interests. Why not take a tram back to the city centre or enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants on the waterfront. Tonight we enjoy a farewell dinner.

The PS Murray Princess is an authentic paddle-wheeler which is propelled by its massive stern wheel. The PS Murray Princess is a true inland paddle-wheeler built for the Murray River, with a character and charm of yesteryear.  It is the largest inland paddle-wheeler in the southern hemisphere. The onboard atmosphere is relaxed and informal by style. The lounge features a majestic view of the paddlewheel in action through the two-story viewing window. Upper and lower lounge areas are accessed by the classic brass and mahogany style spiral staircase.
