Depart Auckland on Air New Zealand, arriving mid-morning in Adelaide, the picturesque capital of South Australia for a one night stay. A morning city sights tour before transferring to the Adelaide Parklands Rail Terminal to board The Ghan train to travel by rail from Adelaide to Alice Springs in Gold Class. This morning depart Darwin and travel along the Arnhem Highway, passing major river systems and wetland regions into Kakadu National Park.
Visit Warradjan Cultural Centre before a Yellow Water Billabong Cruise experience with a local guide. Later transfer to your overnight accommodation in Kakadu for an overnight stay.
The international-acclaimed Kakadu is an enormous, unique natural reserve with wetlands, rivers, sandstone escarpments, and waterfalls and is home to more than 20,000 plant species, crocodiles, flatback turtles and exotic birdlife.
This morning explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr. Join the Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River, where with special permission, you are able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre before returning to Darwin for an overnight stay.

Alotau is a sleepy little town built on the hillsides of the northern shore of Milne Bay. It became the provincial capital in 1968 when administrators were moved from overcrowded Samarai Island. Alotau and the coastal strip either side played a pivotal role in the WWII Battle of Milne Bay and there are several memorials and relics here. The town’s sights might soak up some time, but the real attractions lie beyond Alotau, amid the beautifully set capes, coves and islands of Milne Bay.

Luggage - Checked-in luggage is not accessible during the train journey. Pack your cabin bag with the essentials for the two nights. Smart casual is required for the Queen Adelaide Restaurant on board the train.
Health - A good standard of fitness is required for this tour. The ability to walk unaided for 400 metres is essential. The train is unstable while travelling, therefore you need to be firm-of -foot.
Clothing - Daytime – comfortable touring clothes, good walking shoes. Evening – smart casual for hotels and on board the train - Cruising: As above, with something more dressy for the special nights on board. Men – a jacket and long-sleeved shirt is fine. There are casual alternative restaurants.
