This itinerary includes two nights in Zagreb, Bled, the Bosnia & Herzegovina capital of Sarajevo and the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ - Dubrovnik.
Begin in the Croatian capital of Zagreb; on to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana and Lake Bled, the contrasting mountains and lakes of Slovenia and the Hapsburg resort of Opatija in northern Croatia.  Experience truffle hunting near Motovun, a city tour of Sarajevo and a walking tour of the unchanged old city of Dubrovnik. 
A full day in Montenegro including Southern Europe’s largest fjord and the mountain capital of Cetinje is a special time.
Departing from Dubrovnik on board ‘ms Adriatic Queen’ casts off the cruise around the sparkling Adriatic islands including Mljet, Korčula, Brač and Hvar as well as visiting Split and several national parks on the mainland.

Depart Auckland on Emirates Airlines for our flight to Dubai.  

Monday 17 September

Dubai – Zagreb (Croatia)

Arrive in Dubai, change planes and depart for Zagreb. On arrival, transfer to a centrally located hotel.

Zagreb – Ljubljana – Bled (Slovenia)

Today travel through farmland and rolling countryside dotted with villages to Ljubljana, the Capital of Slovenia.  Visit the most significant sights of the old city centre, the picturesque central open air market, the three bridges, and Robba’s Fountain, before continuing on to the alpine town of Bled.  Dinner included at the hotel.

This morning, a tour of this charming town set in the Italian Alps on the shores of Lake Bled.  See the imposing Bled Castle perched on a cliff high above the lake.  The tour concludes with coffee and a delicious Bled cream cake.   This afternoon is yours to explore or relax.

Bled – Postojna – Opatija (Croatia)

Travel from Bled through the countryside to Postojna and the well-known ‘Karste Caves’.  Tour this cool (8˚c - 10°c) subterranean world by miniature electric train.  Later, continue to the elegant coastal town of Opatija for dinner and overnight.

Travel to the medieval hillside town of Motovun where you will enjoy  a truffle hunt followed by truffle and wine tasting  at the Zigante Restaurant. Return to Opatija and enjoy the balance of the day on your own in this popular summer resort.

Opatija – Plitvice

The journey is now inland past small farms with gate stalls selling cheese and other produce.  On arrival at Plitvice Lakes National Park, visit the UNESCO World Heritage site.  See the 16 terraced lakes of many colours surrounded by densely wooded mountains and lush vegetation.  Dinner is at the hotel.

Plitvice – Sarajevo

This morning, you will have some free time to take a final look at the lakes before travelling through the mountains to Sarajevo - Bosnia and Herzegovina’s unique capital for a two night stay. Dinner is included.

After breakfast, depart for your city tour of Sarajevo, Bosnia’s capital and home of the 1984 Olympic Games. Visit the picturesque Turkish Bazaar ‘Bas Carsija’, the Husref Bay’s Mosque, Olympic Stadium and Gavrilo Princip Museum.
The balance of the day is free to explore the cobblestone streets and enjoy dinner on your own in one of many local restaurants.

Sarajevo – Mostar – Dubrovnik (Croatia)

Today we coach through mountains and along the Neretva River to Mostar where a conflict in the 1990’s saw the destruction of the beautiful ‘Stari Most’ (Old Bridge). The 16th century Bridge and the historic old town have now been reconstructed.   Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and continue on to Dubrovnik for a two-night stay.

Enjoy a walking tour of the ‘Old City’ which remains almost unchanged from the 13th century.  Your time is then free to further explore the ‘Old City’ - perhaps walk the walls or take the Cable Car to the top of Mt Srd for stunning views of the city and coastline.

Dubrovnik - Budva (Montenegro)

This Adriatic country has Southern Europe’s largest fjord.  Marvel at Kotor Bay and then hold onto your hats as you venture up the mountain to the old museum capital of Cetinje.  The return drive along Montenegro’s magnificent coast includes lunch at a local restaurant, photo stops at the unique island hotel of Sveti Stefan and the resort town of Budva for an overnight stay.

Budva – Dubrovnik - Embarkation

Dubrovnik – Mljet – Korčula

Enjoy breakfast as you set sail for Mljet Island. On arrival, explore Mljet National Park which features five types of forest, many species of birds, and two deep lakes, Veliko Jezero (Big Lake) and Malo Jezero (Small Lake). Return to the ship and continue cruising to Korčula, believed to be the birthplace of the explorer Marco Polo.

Korčula – Hvar

This morning, a walking tour of Korčula town takes you through its narrow, cobbled streets and includes a visit to the majestic Gothic-Baroque Cathedral of St. Mark. Board your boat for lunch and a swim stop (weather permitting) as you continue sailing. In the afternoon, arrive in Hvar Town. Your sightseeing tour includes the first public theatre in Europe (older than Shakespeare’s theatre in the UK) and the Franciscan Monastery.

Evening free to explore and dine at one of the many restaurants in town.

Hvar – Bol (Brač) – Split

Sail to Bol on the island of Brač and home to one of the best beaches in Croatia, the Golden Horn. This vast, golden pebble beach is unique in that it changes shape and position depending on the winds. Lunch on board as you continue sailing to Split. A walking tour shows off the historic inner city built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. See the remnants of Split’s Roman heritage, its Renaissance and Gothic structures, Jupiter’s Temple, the Peristyle and the Cathedral. Evening free.

As you cruise this morning, stop for a swim (weather permitting). Late afternoon arrive in Zadar. A walking tour shows you Zadar’s historical centre with the defensive walls built in 16th century, the ancient Port Gate where the Venetian lion still stands guard, the Square of the Five Wells, Church of St. Donat, Roman Forum (1st century BC) and the largest cathedral in Dalmatia - St. Anastasia. Tonight enjoy Captain’s Farewell Dinner with live entertainment on board.

Zadar – Zagreb

Clothing / Weather
• The weather is warm and sunny in September / October with temperatures rising towards the end of the month.
• There will be around 15 hours of daylight and the chance of the odd thunderstorm and light rain.
