Walking around Kapiti Island makes you realise what New Zealand might have sounded like pre-settlement. The birdlife and sounds were just inspiring to what can be done – Roger, Feb ‘20
5km off the west coast of the lower North Island, Kapiti Island Nature Reserve is isolated, still wild and privy to few. This safe and protected environment is blessed with an abundance of native and endangered species. Lessons learnt in over 100 years of nature conservation and conscientious management have allowed some of New Zealand’s most treasured and endangered fauna to once again flourish on Kapiti Island. Highly restricted public access is now possible and the limited opportunities afforded guarantee a very unique encounter with nature for those permitted entry. See Hihi, Saddlebacks, Weka, Bellbirds, Kokako, Kaka and more. Natural and unspoiled, you’ll encounter a slice of natural New Zealand to be treasured.
The bush is lush and beautiful, emanating a spiritual calm as you wander this beautiful island - Virginia
