Switzerland is a country of untold beauty. The clichés are all here: soaring peaks, tumbling waterfalls, sparkling lakes, quaint rural houses and of course Swiss cow bells. Towns and cities offer picture-perfect medieval centres. Trains wind around and through mountains and everything runs like a clock.
The cruise starts in Basel on the Rhine River and travels North with a detour along the vineyard-clad Moselle River valley and concludes in Amsterdam.
Depart Auckland on an afternoon flight with Singapore Airlines.
On arrival in Singapore, change planes for the flight to Zurich arriving in the morning. Transfer to your hotel for an ovSernight stay, afternoon at your leisure. A Welcome dinner is at a local restaurant tonight.
Enjoy a panoramic view of Zurich before your Swiss exploration begins with a coach journey to Chur to board the “Glacier Express” and marvel at the Landwasser viaduct and the Swiss scenery through panoramic windows. An overnight stay in chic St Moritz set on Lake St Moritz. A fondue dinner is included tonight.
The Glacier Express is not a high speed train, rather a one train service. It has a narrow gauge and a large portion of it uses the rack-and-pinion system to both ascend steep gradients and to control the descents. Chur is the lowest point on the line. Travel through numerous tunnels, over many bridges and viaducts. St Moritz is at 1800 m.
This morning our coach negotiates the steep descent from the mountains in a series of hairpin bends. Lake Como (Italy) one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe hemmed in by steep wooded hills and backed by snow convened Alps. Time to browse and enjoy lunch in the sun. Travel onto Lugano for a two night stay.
After breakfast visit Swissminiatur – a miniaturised version of the country’s landmarks. This is followed by a cruise on Lake Lugano. Time to relax in this lakeside town.
Today coach to Tasch via the town of Stresa on Lake Maggiore. On arrival in Tasch take the shuttle train to Zermatt – a car free zone. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant.
An exciting cable car ride this morning to the top of Klein Matterhorn (3882m) with its 360 viewing platform and views across 38 Alpine pecks. Glacier Palace is included - travel 15 metres under the glacier!

Return to Tasch on the shuttle train and travel to Montreaux, home to the famous jazz festival. Then visit the island castle, Chillian. The tour here outlines the life of the Savoy, Bernese and Vaudois periods. Lunch is at a local restaurant followed by a city tour of Bern before arriving in Lucerne for a two night stay.
This morning a city tour of this picturesque lakeside city. In the afternoon travel the cable car to the summit of Stanserhorn. On arrival a Ranger will meet the group to guide a nature walk. The views are spectacular. Tonight dinner is included.
Depart Lucerne and coach to Basel for a city tour before embarking Artistry II. Unpack and relax for the next thirteen days.
Breisach is the gateway to Germany’s Black Forest region, the most well-known products from this region are, Black Forest cherry cake and cuckoo clocks.
This morning, wake up in Strasbourg. Situated on the border of France and Germany, this city blends the cultures of both countries in a delightful way. On your walking tour, you will discover Europe at its most quintessential. Visit the red sand-stone gothic cathedral as well as the magical La Petite France district, home to half-timbered houses.
Enjoy a leisurely morning in Speyer and explore the town at your own pace. This afternoon, an excursion takes you to Heidelberg, home to the oldest university in Germany. Visit the imposing ruins of Heidelberg castle, towering magnificently over the city. You’ll also see the famed Great Vat, the ‘World’s Largest Wine Barrel’.
Pretty Rudesheim is a typical Rhine Valley wine town. Here, visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum with free time to pick up some souvenirs on the narrow, cobblestone Drosselgasse. Downstream from Rudesheim is the dramatic Rhine Gorge, the most beautiful stretch of river. Here the ancient castle stands sentry on lofty cliffs rising 400 feet above the waters. Enjoy an afternoon relaxing on board.
Situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers, 2,000-year-old Koblenz is the cultural and business centre of the Middle Rhine region. Here a walking tour of the city reveals an eventful past through its castles, fortress walls, towers, squares and monuments. This afternoon, enjoy some free time in the city.
The entire Moselle Valley is famous for its beautiful and tranquil scenery and in the middle of this region is the charming wine village of Bernkastel with its well-preserved half-timbered houses that have stood since the Middle Ages. This afternoon enjoy a tasting of some of these well-loved German wines.
Today the choice is yours. Join an excursion to Metz, the historic city on the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers or to the nearby Maginot Line, a series of fortifications built in the 1930s to deter invasion by Germany. Return to the vessel in time for lunch. Afternoon is free with the possibility to join an additional optional excursion.
Luxembourg city has been a place of strategic military significance throughout history. The city centre occupies a picturesque site, perched high on precipitous cliffs that drop into the narrow valleys of the Alzette and Petrusse Rivers.
At the head of the Moselle Valley is Trier, Germany’s oldest city. Some say Trier is even older than Rome. Trier offers pleasant market squares, Germany’s oldest Christian church and many architectural styles – Roman, baroque, neo-classicism, renaissance, and gothic.
A leisurely day to explore the quaint little town of Beilstein. This afternoon, visit medieval Eltz Castle, still owned today by a branch off the family who lived there in the 12th century.
Cologne straddles both sides of the Rhine and is known for its soaring, twin-steepled gothic cathedral. Choose between a guided city walk or a Jewish heritage walk. Later, during free time be sure to try a Kolsch pale lager. Before lunch sail for Holland and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of cruising.
This morning, dock in Amsterdam. Enjoy a canal boat cruise through the elegant grachten, lined with stately homes dating back to Amsterdam’s ‘Golden Age.’ The afternoon is free to explore on your own or to join one of a number of optional excursions on offer.
After breakfast disembark Artistry II. A coach will meet you for sightseeing including Anne Frank’s house and the Rijksmuseum before your overnight stay in Amsterdam.
A farewell dinner included tonight.
