Pukekohe Travel Tour just completed
Friday 05 March
Jim and his eight intrepid cyclists rode into historic Clyde last evening, reporting the past four days have more than met their expectations.
"Thank goodness for Jim's magic non-chafing creme," said six out of the group who have just completed the Otago Rail Trail.
Home-baked scones for morning tea have been a regular feature along with the odd beer or juice on arrival at the various accommodation houses.
The Strath Taieri Hotel is the venue for the annual batchelors dance and our group alighted the Taieri train and walked across the road for their first night's accommodation - not a batchelor in sight.
The varied and unknown accommodation became a highlight - a converted school, a renovated pub and the historic Dunstan House in Clyde all provided a warm welcome, comfortable beds and excellent meals.
Jim reported a strong head-wind on Day 1; calm Day 2; variable Day 3; downhill Day 4 - who cares - no rain!!
Generous locals loaned Jim a vehicle on two occaisons so side trips to Naseby and St Bathens were achieved without pedalling!
Dave, our other trusty cyclist in the office awaits the full report so he can prepare for our next tour in November.
