Bike 8kms then rest with refreshments and something to eat- bike another 17kms to a high country station where we will have lunch with the owners, then enjoy a van ride further up the valley - then cycle 8kms to your overnight farm accommodation in the upper reaches of the Awatere Valley arriving late afternoon.  A hot shower, a few drinks and a traditional meal at the homestead.

After a farm-style breakfast you can accept the challenge to ride or you will be driven to the top of Upcot Saddle to enjoy a mainly downhill 10kms ride to Castle Creek. Continue to the gates of Molesworth Station for lunch and later ride the best downhill sections before arriving in Hanmer Springs with time to relax in the thermal pools before dinner.

Mon 26      Hanmer B L
After a leisurely start, drive to Hawarden in North Canterbury to visit ‘Flaxmere Gardens’ - 300m above sea level on a terraced river bed close to the Southern Alps. There will be ample time to see this outstanding garden and enjoy lunch. In November, the masses of primula, candelabra, rhododendrons, azaleas, clematis and flowering cherries are the essence of spring. Return to Hanmer in time for another soak in the pools, shop or relax.

Depart at 8.30am and drive over Jacks Pass, stopping off at different points of interest, including Lake Tennyson for morning tea with an amazing back drop of mountain scenery.  At the bottom of Island Saddle start cycling for the day, following the river downhill mostly, enjoy picnic styled lunch on the river’s edge after crossing into Rainbow Station, then transport to St Arnaud arriving late afternoon. Dinner and story time later.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Marlborough has around 2,350 hours of sunshine with New Zealand’s average being 2,000 hours. So in spring months remember sunscreen and a hat, but also pack thermals as weather is changeable

LUGGAGE
We have plenty of storage space but we urge you to keep your luggage to a minimum. Please limit yourself to 18 kgs; two smaller bags are better than one large heavy bag, one for cycle gear and one for other clothing. Sports bags or soft sided suitcases are the easiest way to store and access your luggage. A day pack is a must.
