Val Croon will be your host during your stay.
Val has taken over his father and mothers business of the Hotel Chathams and as Val Senior did, organises the activities for the week.
He has his own fishing quota for crayfish, wet fish and paua but concentrates on running the hotel.
As an experienced diver, he will accompany anyone who wishes to cage-dive with the sharks!!!
Itinerary (Saturday to Saturday)
Saturday
Depart Auckland on Air Chathams around 1pm to arrive in the Chathams late afternoon. Transfer to your accommodation via a short tour of the main town Waitangi. Settle into accommodation. Enjoy a seafood dinner at either the Kaingaroa Sports Club or at Hotel Chathams.
Sunday
Depart from the nearby wharf for a half-days fishing for cod and grouper. Return for lunch, pack fish and shower. Head down to the rocks to get some paua. Return to accommodation to cook the days catch. Option to have a BBQ dinner at Admiral's Farm (own cost)
Monday
Depart from hotel at 8.30am to Port Hutt for another half-days cod and grouper fishing. Pack fish. Head for the rocks to gather paua and fish off the wharf.
Tuesday
Maybe hire a van to go sightseeing en route to Port Hutt for fishing off the rocks (sightseeing includes Basalt Columns, Port Hutt and Waitangi West).
Wednesday
Depart from hotel at 8.30am for half-day cod, grouper fishing or diving for crayfish at Owenga. Continue down the south coast to see the parea (Chatham Islands wood pigeon)
Thursday
Another 8.30am departure from hotel for day of cod and grouper fishing. Rest of day free to look around town (museum, craft shop, Waitangi Store, art gallery)
Friday (optional)
Pitt Island by plane or boat for a full-day tour to see the most remote part of the world, meet the locals and see the sights. Return to Hotel Chathams for dinner
Saturday
Depart accommodation at 8.30am for airport and return flight to the mainland on Air Chathams, arriving in Auckland around 11.30am.
NB: The itinerary is only a guideline and subject to change.
Pitt Island is optional and also subject to weather conditions.
