Thursday 28 Auckland - Chatham Islands D
An early afternoon departure onboard Air Chathams turbo prop Convair a dual service plane for passengers and cargo. Refreshments will be served during the 2 hour 15 minute flight. Arriving Chatham Islands mid afternoon you will be met by your hosts and taken to your accommodation via a short tour around town.
Friday 29
Today we visit Kopinga Marae and enjoy morning tea while hearing about the Moriori people (the first human inhabitants of the island around 400-600 years ago). Drive through Owenga Village and onto the Rangika Cliff Top for lunch. Walk on the Reserve and visit Tommy Solomon Statue (the last full blooded Moriori).
Saturday 30
Travel to Torotoro Memorial, Hapupu National Reserve (home of the Moriori Tree Carvings.
During our farm visit with Jim Muison at Kaiangaroa, there is a short walk to the only accessible seal colony and site of Broughton Landing 1791 (early whaling village).
A buffet seafood dinner tonight will be at either the Kaingaroa Sports and Social Club or at the Hotel. If at Kaingaroa, you can mix and mingle with the local farmers and fishermen

Sunday 01
The included 1/2 day fishing trip is very Chatham Islands and a great experience. You will have loads of fun and can expect to catch blue cod and groper on your rope line (gloves are recommended). Then to the incredible Basalt Columns where you will also see seabirds including oyster catchers. Visit the Port Hutt fishing village and Waitangi West
A BBQ will be held tonight at Admirals Farm.
Monday 02
Our optional Pitt Island Tour will depart this morning (weather dependent). Highlight (weather and fitness permitting) is a climb up Mt Hakepa, officially the first inhabited place to see the sunrise. Farm visit day
PLAN B. Travel to Te Matarae and wander through the Mayors garden. Walk in the Henga Reserve and see the Rock Carvings.
Tuesday 03
Depart on a tour travelling down the South Coast. You will see spectacular coastal scenery and more of the islands sheep and cattle farms. (Meet Bruce and Liz Tuanui)
Visit Tuku Reserve and spot the endemic Wood Pigeon.
Wednesday 04
Depart for Wharekauri where we meet farmer Tony Anderson and discuss his view on farming in these conditions. We visit Blind Jims at Te Whanga Lagoon and search the shoreline for fossilised sharks teeth. See limestone deposits characteristics of open-ocean conditions of Palaeocene to early Oligocene age (58-35 million years) Continue on to Cape Young and Nikau Scenic Reserve
Thursday 05
This morning you will be transferred to the airport for a mid morning flight home. Arrive on the mainland around lunchtime.

Hotel Chatham
The hotel is the hub of the tour most meals are at the hotel and the day tours also depart from here
The hotel rooms were refurbished in 2008 and all the twin /double rooms have private facilities (albeit small) and open out to Petrie Bay. The single rooms have shared facilities and do not have a view - hence the reasonable price
Hotel Chatham is a great place to meet the locals as it is the only pub on the island

A delightful guest house just 100 metres uphill from the Hotel Chatham.
This property has four spacious, beautifully appointed rooms - two overlook the bay and the others the luxuriant garden. All meals are at the Hotel Chatham.

- A non-refundable deposit of $300 per person is required along with your completed booking form
